A different Durga Puja Celebration

In collaboration with B.N Foundation, on 19th October and later on two more dates we reached out to a section of society, that we rarely think of during festivals. We distributed walkers and wheel chairs to the elderly who are physically challenged and shackled by poverty are forced to lead a life of loneliness and pain and often confined to a corner of the residence.  Recipients were identified from a single large locality in South 24 Parganas by Radhika Singh, ( friend and committee member) who verified their financial condition / background and tried to understand their medical issues as well as the possible benefits of receiving this support. Two of the eleven beneficiaries were not elderly; rather they were extremely young – twenty years old but severely physically challenged and in need of help.

Stalls during the Puja

Special thanks to Radhika, for initiating the distribution of the wheel chairs and also for sponsoring the stall where the cakes made by a very young volunteer, donated art works from friends, and necklaces made by residents of Charunibash were sold to raise funds. It was our very first effort and we thank Shilpi Sen for volunteering in the stall to sell the products.

Exposure Programme

On 29th October 2020 Jagorani Kestopur visited Bhalobasha for an exposure to the daily running of our old age home,  as part of their practical training before starting their own little old age home ‘Notun Ghar” for similar group of women. We were happy to share our experience and wish that this home will be a loving home to all those who need the most. We wish Jagaroni Kestopur all the very best.
